Sarah Benham

Sarah was born in New Orleans and raised in rural Mississippi. Subsequently, she moved back to New Orleans, before moving to New England where she has lived since 1971.

She studied painting in the 70's but soon thereafter her interest turned to photography.  She studied with George Tice, Deborah Turbeville, Arnold Newman, Eugene Richards and John Loengard.

Having had a career as a gallery director, interior designer and antiques shop owner, she decided in the early 90's to return to painting.   She has studied with George Dureau, David Loffler Smith and John Borowicz.  She was included in the opening exhibition of the Dedee Shattuck Gallery in Westport in 2011, and the small works exhibitions there in 2012 and 2013.  She had a solo exhibit at the Colo Colo Gallery in New Bedford in 2012 and was one of 4 painters in Quartet: Harmony and Dissonance at Gallery 4 in Tiverton, RI in 2012.

She was recently profiled in the September/October 2013 issue of Design New England. Sarah is open to discussing commissions.
